Why does the PPC release the bill?

The People’s Bank of China (PBC) [MicroBlog] released the fifth series of renminbi in October 1999 according to Decree No.268 of the State Council, and released the 2005-version fifth series of renminbi in August 2005 to improve the anti-counterfeiting techniques and printing quality.

It is ten years since the 2005-version has been released. And over these ten years, great changes have taken place in cash circulation and treatment methods to the bill by financial institutions in the banking industry while significant progress has been made in equipment for automatic selling and cash auto-treatment, both of which put higher requirements for machine-readable performance of renminbi.

But accordingly, some lawbreakers also turn to new technology for counterfeiting renminbi, resulting in difficulty in identification for the public. For the purpose of protecting the benefits of renminbi holders, it is required to improve the anti-counterfeiting technology and printing quality from time to time in accordance with the development of current scientific technology to keep the leading level of anti-counterfeiting technology concerning renminbi.

Therefore, the PPC decided to release the 2015-version bill with numeral “100” in the fifth series of renminbi, which would keep the same as the 2005-version in size, main patterns and dominant tone but also have some adjustments on part of patterns, anti-counterfeiting signs and arrangement. Advanced public-based anti-counterfeiting technology is used in the new version to improve the machine-readable performance for the purpose of easy identification by the public.

These bills will play the same role as those with the same numeral in the market after release.
